A Basic Overview of Web Hosting Services
Part – 2
Continuing the series of articles on web hosting services, this three – part article will provide our readers with a basic overview of the types of web hosting services in brief and the next articles in this series will pick up each service in detail.
Web hosting services are all the services that are offered to bring a website online and help keep it online too. Usually it means web hosting and the ancillary services such as web design and development but some companies also include search engine optimization, marketing, etc., to their gambit. Web hosting services related to web hosting are made available as a packaged deal and most hosting companies offer all the bare basics required to manage a website with the packaged deal at an industry standard monthly price. Paying more does not always mean you get better quality, it could mean you are being charged more by some clever businessmen who understands the psychological inclination of some people to pay more in order to get the best. Depending on the quality of the services on offer (or the business plan), the price may be set to rock bottom or sky high but the quality available to a customer is usually the same across the industry, and there is no other way than research to find a good web hosting company that offers a value for money service.
How to find a good web host is a topic that needs a series of articles dedicated to it and we will come back to it soon. However, the basics of the making of a good web hosting service provider is- a stable business structure and a commitment to the customer to offer nothing but the best value for their money. Large web hosting service providers are not necessarily better than the smaller ones as both have their pros and cons, you need to assess what you really need from your hosting service provider to find a good match. Finding the right company is like hunting for a house and not changing the grass in your lawn, shifting a website from one web hosting company to the other can be one of your worst nightmares.
Most small companies rent servers and network resources from large companies or data centers – give or take a few brand names and MHz on the processor speed – that have pretty much the same specifications on their servers and networks to offer. What makes the difference here is the people who are managing these resources, yes the human factor. Now, human factor does not mean marketing, even though marketing brings in most of the business for a web hosting company – there is nothing new to sell, it is the knowledge and skills possessed by the staff who control the resources and the ability of the management to run the company. If you are a small web host, the trick to have a successful business is to select a target clientele and offer tailor made packages that would best suit this group. This would save you from tons of problems as, the more diverse your target group gets the bigger your focus area would be meaning- bigger problems to manage.
We will come back to the topics raised in this article and discuss them in detail in the following days. However, if you have questions please feel free to post comments or contact one of our sales staff to know how we can help you make your online presence better, at Courtix its always about the customer.
